The Whistle Dog is returning to the A&W menu across Canada and die-hard fans of the iconic fast-food item played a role.

The Whistle Dog is a hot dog in a toasted bun topped with relish, cheddar cheese and bacon.

When it was discontinued from the A&W menu in 2017, Whistle Dog lovers emerged demanding its return.

The hot dog came back briefly in the summer of 2022 as a limited-time offer but swiftly sold out.

Due to the persistence of its fans it will now take its place back on the menu in A&W restaurants nationwide on Tuesday, May 21.

The restaurant released an award-winning documentary film about the Whistle Dog fandom, marking the first time a quick-service restaurant has released a short film about a menu item, according to a media release issued May 15.

Bring Back The Whistle Dog is an 18-minute documentary filmed in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, that showcases the relentless efforts of five Whistle Dog Warriors to get the hotdog back on the menu, from writing songs about it, bombarding social media and starting petitions.

The film had its premier in Vancouver and has earned praises at international film festivals.
