Nighthawk Winery Announces Its Newest Wine
To say that the team at Nighthawk Vineyards in Okanagan Falls, BC is excited about their newest wine would be an understatement. Of course, there’s a good reason for that. While any new release for a boutique winery is a significant accomplishment, this one – a Viognier-Roussanne – is very special.
First, the grapes needed for this wine are unique in the Okanagan Valley. Viognier is one of the more fragrant varietals, combining perfectly with Roussanne's bright, crisp flavours to create a unique pairing. Part of the reason for the rarity of these varietals is the particular soil and growing conditions that the vines demand. Luckily for Nighthawk Vineyards, taking on an additional 3-acre vineyard last year has given them exactly what they needed to tackle a Viognier-Roussanne pairing.
Being Family Run Means Extra Care and Attention
Adding the management of VRM Vineyard in Osoyoos to their portfolio has provided exceptional high-quality grapes and new varietals to offer, but the talent of the winemaker is equally important. Being a family-run vineyard, the winemaker in question also happens to be Daniel and Christy's son, Dakota Bibby.
"We are thrilled with Dakota's crafting of this wine," says Daniel. "The additional vineyard provided him the opportunity to work with new grape varietals and create a truly exceptional artisan wine, and we are truly proud of the result." Daniel and his wife Christy started the vineyard with a vision of a family-run business, and that dream has become a reality. "We have had all of our children involved in the vineyard in one way or the other," Daniel shares. "It's the fact that we work together as a family on everything that we do, that makes every day truly special."
Like most of the Nighthawk Vineyards wines, you must act quickly to purchase this latest vintage. The Viognier-Roussanne will be a limited small lot release; even the bottles received special treatment. The art label, with its embedded gold medallion, identifies this as a very special release. Making a trip up to the winery is a good idea anyway because this wine is not the only new product at Nighthawk Vineyards. The family has been slowly and meticulously adding to their farm gate winery.
