12-storey condo building planned for downtown Kamloops Travelodge
A downtown Kamloops hotel may be the site of a 12-story residential tower.
City staff are reviewing an application that would replace the 60-year-old Travelodge motel across from Royal Inland Hospital. It's currently one of two Travelodge locations in the city.
According to a sign posted on the property, council will consider whether to rezone the property for more density than would typically be allowed.

The 12-storey tower would include 147 units and a daycare, according to the notice posted at 360 Columbia Street.
Several other motels have been repurposed as subsidized housing in recent years, while the City has worked to incentivize more get redeveloped.
Developers haven't yet responded to the City's move to reduce taxes for developers that replace some ageing motels, so the Travelodge may be the first in line to take up the offer.
It's not clear when the proposal will come to council.
