Penticton RCMP are trying to find witnesses to an assault against a 93-year-old woman as she got off a bus last week.
The alleged assault happened in the area of Calgary Avenue and Main Street around 11 a.m. on June 5, according to an RCMP media release issued today, June 10.
RCMP say a woman pushing a cart full of belongings covered in a white blanket "forcefully" pushed the elderly woman in front of the bus as it started to pull out from the bus stop.
“This is a very concerning incident that could have led to fatal results given the elderly woman’s age and physical capabilities,” Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett said in the release.
“We are thankful that the bus driver was cognizant that something had occurred and was able to stop the bus prior to anything serious happening.”
Witnesses stepped in to help the 93-year-old but weren’t able to detain the attacker. The victim sustained some minor injuries and is now safely resting at home.
Police are thankful to the witnesses who helped the victim, but are hoping to speak to any witnesses to get more information.
