PENTICTON - Here's some ideas if you're looking for something to do in Penticton this weekend that doesn't involve Christmas shopping.

The fifth annual Santa Rec Run offers a chance to get some fitness in and raise funds for outdoor kids’ programs.

Hoodoo Adventures at 131 Ellis St. is the start and finish line for a five or 10 kilometre run down Lakeshore Drive. Participants are invited to put on their Santa outfit and pickup a free Santa hat at the starting line. The event takes place Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at a cost of $15 per person or $40 for a family of three to five persons.

Proceeds from the Santa Rec Run provide opportunities for kids to get outside, learn some new skills as well as an appreciation for the environment. For more information, or to register, see the Hoodoo Adventures website.

Penticton Vees take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Dec. 10. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a 6 p.m. puck drop. Underwriters Insurance, Speedway Foundation and Penticton Auto Sales will be raffling off a car, with one lucky fan taking home a 2003 Nissan Altima LE. Raffle tickets are $2 each, proceeds to go to the School District 67 breakfast program. Tickets are $13 for adults, $11 for seniors, with students and children under 18 free.

Tickets are available at the events centre box office, online at ValleyFirstTix.com or by phone at 1-877-763-2849.
