ARMSTRONG - We guarantee you’ll be reaching for your hiking boots — and maybe your passport — after scrolling through this Armstrong couple’s Instagram photos.

Kam Phung and Nanae Hoshi, from the small North Okanagan town of Armstrong, have been documenting their travels and outdoor adventures with a series of stunning Instagram photos from around the world, and their own B.C. back yard.

Looking through their photos, you might think they have a personal photographer tagging along with them. Nope. It’s just them, a camera, and sometimes a tripod.

“More often than not, I don’t even use a tripod. It takes so much time to stop and set it up that it takes away from the whole experience of hiking,” Phung says. “Usually I use a makeshift tripod — my backpack, a log or some sort of rock formation.”

It’s a good thing his digital SLR is fairly durable because it’s taken a few tumbles along the way, he says.

Having visited over 50 countries, he says B.C.’s natural beauty remains “unmatched by the rest of the world.” His love of the outdoors was born on a Pleasant Valley Secondary School canoe trip to B.C.’s Bowron Lakes in 2006, and the photos closest to his heart are the ones taken back home.

“My favourite photos are from Rose Swanson in Armstrong,” Phung says, adding a trip home isn’t complete without a hike up the mountain. “I have so many memories tied to there.”

Rose Swanson Mountain is, in fact, where he and Hoshi got engaged, and yes, they have a beautiful Instagram photo to remember it. But don’t be fooled, they’re not overly trigger happy as they travel through life.

“I only try to capture the moments for me that pop out as something to remember, something cool, something unique, an experience I want to cherish or remember down the road,” Phung says. “I don’t take photos of a lot of the scenery, just because sometimes it’s better to sit there and enjoy the scene. I don’t want to live my whole life through a lens.”

We're not sure what's more gorgeous; the view of this West Vancouver lighthouse, or the photo.

Having visited over 50 countries, Phung says B.C.'s natural beauty remains unmatched by the rest of the world. After seeing this photo, we tend to agree.

Despite their travels, this couple never forgets their roots and a trip back to Armstrong is never complete without a hike up Rose Swanson Mountain.

The top of Rose Swanson Mountain is actually where they got engaged. They documented the special occasion with this charming photo.

When Kam strikes a solo pose, it's usually a handstand.

We're not kidding about the handstands.

Seriously, his hands have travelled almost as far as his feet.

This photo won them roundtrip airfare to Hong Kong as part of a Cathay Pacific airline contest.

And didn't rest for long after returning to B.C. They were out exploring their backyard in no time.
