Arrests made in violent store robbery in Lumby

VERNON - Police have arrested two men in connection to a violent robbery at Mac’s Convenience Store in Lumby.

They are Thomas Belanger, 34, and Keegan Reed, 21, both from Lumby, Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says in a media release.

Both face charges of robbery, unlawful confinement and uttering threats, while Reed faces an additional charge of accessory to an offence.

A lone female employee was held at knife point during the April 24 robbery. Police said she wasn’t physically hurt, but was significantly traumatized. According to WorkSafe B.C., which is investigating employee safety in relation to the incident. It was the employee's first time working alone on the night shift. She is under the age of 19.

Belanger and Reed are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on Wednesday, May 4.

“Lumby RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation,” Noseworthy says in the release.
