Construction permits down for the month of May

KAMLOOPS – The month of May was the first month this year the city didn’t see an increase in the number of building permits issued.

Single family housing permits issued were a bit lower lower this May than in 2014 — 16 compared to 22 — but with multi-family units factored in the number of residential units issued permits in both May 2015 and 2014 were exactly 30.

At a total of 161 residential permits, the city granted 23 more residential permits in the first five months of 2015 than it did in 2014.

While the number of permits were down slightly in May, the total value of permits came in just shy of $650,000 more over the previous May. About $11.5 million worth of permits were issued last month, the majority of it for residential work.

So far 675 permits valued at $77 million have been issued this year. Last year during the same period 562 permits valued at about $52 million were issued.
