PENTICTON - Penticton voters have a number of choices available to them when it comes to casting a ballot in the upcoming federal election.

The City of Penticton lies within the newly created riding of South Okanagan-West Kootenay.

There are currently three candidates on the ballot; Liberal Connie Denesiuk, Conservative Marshall Neufeld, and New Democrat Richard Cannings.

Residents can vote on Election Day, which is Monday, October 19, 2015. They also have the option of voting on one of four advance polling days, which are Friday, Oct. 9, Saturday Oct.10, Sunday, Oct.11 and Monday, Oct. 12. Advance polls are open from noon until 8 p.m.

Voters can also cast a ballot at the local Elections Canada office, located at 1301 Main Street, Suite 413, in the Penticton Plaza.

Residents can also vote by mail, but if doing so, should apply as soon as possible. Deadline for applying to vote by mail is Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. Pacific time.  Applications are available at Elections Canada offices, at Canadian embassies, high commission or consulate offices, or by calling Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868.

It’s also not a bad idea to check online to make sure you’re registered. The process takes about two minutes and will save you potential hassles at the polling station.

Remember, you’ll need ID to vote. Check Elections Canada for acceptable ID to prove your identity and address.
