Kelowna's Prospera Place announced today it will be adhering to the province’s new vaccine card program.

Starting Sept. 17, all employees and visitors to the Kelowna arena will have to show proof of “full COVID-19 vaccination,” according to a Prospera Place media release issued today, Aug. 27.

B.C. Premier John Horgan said on Monday that as of Sept. 13, proof of at least one vaccine will be needed and by Oct. 24, two doses will be required to get into sporting and cultural events and other indoor venues like restaurants and fitness centres.

The Kelowna Rockets begin pre-season play on Sept. 15 in Vancouver, and on Sept. 17 will play host to the Victoria Royals at Prospera. The season home opener is Oct. 2 against the Everett Silvertips.

“The health and safety of guests, staff and players is our top priority, and we support the B.C. proof of vaccination program revealed earlier this week,” GSL Group chief operation Gavin Parry said in the release. “We will continue to work with local health authorities to ensure we are implementing appropriate policies for the safety of our guests and staff.”

No details yet on how the entry process into the arena will work but the company promises more information before the Rockets first pre-season game.

Earlier this week, the WHL said fans will be required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination before they'll be allowed into Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Vancouver and Victoria games.

“We are committed to implementing these new required measures in each of our five B.C. communities," WHL commissioner Ron Robinson said in a media release.

Along with operating Prospera Place, according to its website, Vancouver-based GSL Group is involved in real estate development, holdings and construction, sports and entertainment, recreational facilities, travel and hospitality, health and fitness, agriculture and e-commerce.
