THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - Avalanche risk is considerable to high throughout the region and crews will again be doing avalanche control in Glacier National Park to minimize the risk.

The warmer temperatures and sunshine will create springlike conditions in Glacier National Park and Avalanche Canada believes this could lead to more large natural activity, leading to a high risk rating in the treeline and alpine elevations.

Highway 1 will be closed across the national park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 for avalanche control.

In the North and South Columbia ranges the avalanche risk is listed as considerable at all elevations, while in the Kootenay Boundary range the risk is moderate below the treeline but considerable at the treeline and alpine elevations.

In town, highs of between 4 Celsius and 8 C are expected today and temperatures are expected to reach between 5 C and 7 C throughout the region Tuesday and Wednesday. The normal high temperature at this time of year is 0 C.

Drive B.C. is currently reporting black ice, slippery sections, fog and debris on Southern Interior highways.
