A severely injured fox cared for at the B.C. Wildlife Park's health centre in Kamloops has improved enough to move to an outdoor pen.

Mia the juvenile red fox has been recovering at the Fawcett Family Wildlife Health Centre for the past five weeks. The fox was found in a ditch near Ashcroft with severe injuries.

The animal care team provided daily physiotherapy in a calm environment and the fox has healed enough to move to an outdoor pen adjacent to the fox exhibit, according to a B.C. Wildlife Park Facebook post.

Eventually Mia and the park’s resident fox, Raven, will cohabitate in the current fox yard, however, that integration will be a long process, the park said.

"In her new location, Mia and Raven can now see and smell each other from a distance,” the wildlife park said in the post. “Raven was offered shavings from Mia’s crate and vice versa which intensifies the scent of the other animal and allows each of them the opportunity to safely and thoroughly in investigate each other’s scent.”

Eventually, Mia will be moved into the secondary fox yard which will allow for a closer interaction between the two.

The park said they are optimistic Mia and will move in with Raven full time.

The park will be Mia's permanent home where she will reside as an educational ambassador for her species.
