Kamloops Airport numbers remain on pace for record year

KAMLOOPS - With only a month left to go, the Kamloops Airport is set to beat the record 310,000 travellers who passed through the gates in 2014.

With more than 290,000 travellers already in the books for 2015, the airport has surpassed the 2013 numbers and is just shy of the nearly 313,000 travellers who used the airport in 2014.

November numbers continued to climb, jumping 4.7 per cent over the year before with more than 26,000 passengers. The past two years have brought about 30,000 travellers through the gates in December.

With a lower Canadian dollar, tourism travel continues to lead the way, according to managing director Fred Legace, and all routes are performing well.

Legace notes the airport also put two new runway sweepers into service for the upcoming winter season, which will help add to the reliability of the airport. The sweepers come at a cost of $547,000 and were partially funded through a Transport Canada program.
