KAMLOOPS - Kamloops is calling for exhibitors for the upcoming Green Living Expo this spring.

Glen Cheetham with the city’s sustainability department hopes to get over 40 exhibitors.

“What we envision is having the Sandman Centre full of inspiring business and services,” Cheetham says.

The expo, in its first year, has a broad focus, ranging from health and wellness to waste management to energy conservation.

“When we talk about what people can do a lot of it is really around how they use resources, like energy, transportation and in their residences,” Cheetham says.

As the call for exhibitors has just gone out, he can’t confirm any single groups participation, but Cheetham says he’s had conversations with local sustainability groups and companies in solar energy.

He says they are looking to engage businesses and are working with the Business Improvement Associations and Chamber of Commerce.

Aside from exhibitors, there will be a speakers series and plans are in place for an exhibition garden and a kids zone for hands on activities. Food and drink taste tests are also on the menu.

“It’s something we’re hoping to be very interactive,” Cheetham says. “There’s a possibility for an electric vehicle test drive.”

He says they’re in the planning stages of getting a compressed natural gas bus so people can practice putting a bicycle in the rack on the front with no stress.

Right now the city is working on getting exhibitors interested.

“The key for us is to spread the word and attract local business and beyond,” Cheetham says. “It’s about interactions and discovering new services.”

The expo will be held on April 30 at the Sandman Centre in downtown Kamloops.
