Kelowna RCMP have made arrests in connection to cases of possession and distribution of child sex abuse material over the past two months.

Officers with the Integrated Child Exploitation Unit executed five search warrants in unrelated cases and in each case suspects were arrested and released with “specific conditions,” according to an RCMP media release issued today, June 20.

RCMP said incidents of sextortion continue to be reported in the Central Okanagan.

“These incidents are thoroughly investigated and supports are offered to victims and their families,” the release read.

Officers with the ICE unit also help teach children about internet safety.

“Combining enforcement and education, ICE investigators remain highly dedicated to combating this issue in our community,” Kelowna RCMP Vulnerable Persons Unit Sgt. Tim Russell said in the release. “Our message to those possessing and trafficking in Child Sexual Abuse Material is clear: Stop. You will be found and held accountable.”

Anyone needing support as a victim can call the Kelowna RCMP.

Police also provided links to several resources for victims of sextortion and/or online luring:
