A new initiative by B.C.'s gambling corporation could mean more food in the mouths of Kamloops' less fortunate and more money in the pockets of local business.

The B.C. Lottery Corporation's "Spread The Local Love" campaign is an online fundraiser designed to encourage residents to shop local with proceeds going directly to one of 10 participating non-profits across B.C., including the Kamloops Food Bank.

Between Feb. 1 and 15, items and gift cards from local businesses and sponsored by the lottery corporation will be available on the fundraising page, where they can be purchased or bid on during a silent auction.

And with the money raised going back to the community, "campaigns (like this) not only help raise important funds for the Kamloops Food Bank but also help support our local businesses," says Bernadette Siracky, Kamloops Food Bank Executive Director. "In 2020, BCLC’s sponsorship, employee-led fundraising and volunteers helped us deliver more than 2.4 million pounds of food to 5250 individuals, 47 community agencies and nine associate member Food Banks."

In Kamloops, participating businesses include: Duff’s Pub, Jardine’s Domaine, Mittz Kitchen and Papa G Café. To purchase a gift card, bid on a silent auction item or to make a donation, go here.
