WEST KELOWNA - A major response to an incident involving a man and a gas leak in a West Kelowna neighbourhood is over.

At one point this afternoon, Dec. 21, roughly a dozen RCMP vehicles — including the heavily armed emergency response team — firefighters and a Fortis B.C. crew were on the scene in Glenrosa.

Neighbours were being asked to stay away from the area, and the people in at least one home were asked to leave. Another resident said police were using her home to get sight lines on a McMahon Road property. Several of the officers had weapons drawn.

RCMP blocked Webber Road as officers surrounded the home at 3209 McMahon Road where a man, who allegedly threatened police with violence, was holed up.

Police sid the man, who they believed to be armed, had damaged a natural gas line in home's kitchen.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said a 38-year-old West Kelowna man was taken into custody shortly after noon and the gas leak was repaired. He said the man was taken to hospital "to receive any required medical treatement and assessment required."

No word from RCMP on what, if any, charges will be recommended.
