More than 450 music students from six middle school and five secondary schools will form a massed band to preform a fundraising concert for Ukraine on Sunday.

The students will be lead by guest conductor Dennis Colpitts and will perform “Kyiv, 2022” by American composer Brian Balmages at Prospera Place, June 26, according to a Central Okanagan school district media release.

“The music tells the story of the current conflict in Ukraine and Brian is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this piece to relief organizations in Ukraine,” Okanagan Mission Secondary School music teacher Megan Frederick said on an online fundraising page created for the event.

Along with the concert, local artisans, crafters and businesses will be set up in the arena with a portion of their sales donated to Ukrainian relief.

The student choirs and bands will be performing together for the first time and will be playing throughout the event. There will also be student artwork on display and other fundraising efforts.

The event goes from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Prospera Place.

Admission is by donation through this online fundraising website and the money raised will go to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
