MERRITT — A couple from Merritt are still digesting the news after winning the $25.9 million jackpot after purchasing a Lotto Max ticket last Friday.

George Munro and his wife Rowena Inyallie were heading to the Courtesy Corner Market in Merritt for some cranberry juice and a chocolate bar when Munro decided to purchase a lottery ticket. He matched all seven numbers in the draw that was held on Friday, Feb. 22.

The couple says the win couldn't have come at a better time.

"I was just thinking there's no way I can do my job for another 20 years," Munro said in a media release issued by B.C. Lottery Corporation today, Feb. 27. "It's really physically demanding. I've let work know I can stay on until they find a replacement."

Inyallie said she called her mom who couldn't believe the news either.

"She dropped the phone," she said.

The new multimillionaire's said they have already purchased a new Ford F-350 pickup and a new Ford Mustang Shelby is also on its way.

The couple also plans to fix up their house and help out their friends and family.

"We will have a big barbecue with family," Munro said. "We also run a baseball team at home so I think brand new jerseys are in store for everybody."

Inyallie said she is still soaking in the news.

"Absolutely amazing. Best six dollars we ever spent. I'm still waiting to wake up," she says.
