Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt is shutting down their emergency department for the day because of staffing issues.

The emergency room will be shut down between 8a.m. Oct. 8, to 8a.m. Oct. 9, due to “unexpected limited physician availability,” according to a press release from Interior Health.

People in need of care can go to the nearest emergency room at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

The rest of Nicola Valley Hospital will be operating as usual.

Interior Health advises anyone in an emergency to call 9-1-1.

If anyone is unsure if they need to go to the emergency room they can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 or visit the HealthLink BC website.
