North Okanagan RCMP warn sex workers to avoid Sagmoen property

Curtis Sagmoen leaving the Vernon courthouse, today, June 19.

For a second time, Vernon RCMP have issued a public warning to sex workers asking them to avoid the Salmon River Road area around the Sagmoen family property.

Curtis Sagmoen, 41, has multiple convictions for violence toward sex workers and is under a court-ordered condition not to have any contact with anyone that works in the sex industry.

"It has come to our attention that there may be sex workers, new to the area, who are not aware of this individual," Vernon RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in a media statement. "In the interest of their safety, we are once again advising anyone who receives a request for sex-related services in the area of Salmon River Road, not attend the area and contact police immediately."

A Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release quotes Sagmoen's probation order that says: "You must not have any contact in any way with any sex trade workers."

In an unusual move in the fall of 2020, Vernon RCMP issued a similar warning for sex workers to stay away from the area.

"This message echoes a previously issued warning and we are once again distributing this publicly-known release condition to inform persons who are protected by the Court-ordered condition, so that they can take steps to protect themselves," the release says.

Sagmoen was multiple convictions against sex workers and in 2019 was convicted of ambushing and pointing a gun at a sex worker he had called to the Salmon River Road property in the summer of 2017.

In 2020, he was convicted for driving an ATV into another sex worker he'd called to the property during the summer of 2017.

In the fall of 2017, the body of 19-year-old Traci Genereaux was found at Sagmoen's family property. No one has ever been charged in relation to Genereaux's death and police have not said how she died.

Sagmoen currently has one case moving through the courts after being charged with assaulting a police officer at the Salmon River Road property. The case is scheduled for trial this summer.
