Kamloops RCMP have announced the return of its Inadmissible Patrons Policy that helps businesses deny service to known criminals.

Kamloops RCMP and local businesses are making a list of criminals and showing them the door.
The detachment announced the return of its Inadmissible Patrons Policy today, Dec. 20, which was paused during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This policy is intended to send a strong message to criminals in Kamloops – you’re not welcome here and if we recognize that you are in one of our partner establishments, you will be told to leave,” Kamloops RCMP detachment commander Supt. Jeff Pelley said in a news release.
Local businesses that join in the program will have a sign displayed at the front, defining who isn't allowed inside, beginning Dec. 22. Staff can contact police, so officers can show up to remove a person not allowed inside.
"An inadmissible patron is someone wearing gang colours or insignia, or is known to be involved in organized crime or other criminality including firearms offences, sexual and violent assaults,” Supt. Pelley said. “Individuals who participate in a lifestyle that places themselves and others at risk – directly or indirectly – jeopardize public safety in a manner that is inexcusable and unwelcomed in Kamloops.”
The return of the program is welcome news for local business associations.
“This initiative ensures a safer and more welcoming environment throughout our neighbourhood," Downtown Kamloops executive director Howie Reimer said in the news release.
Jeremy Heighton of the North Shore business association echoed that support, praising the collaboration between businesses and the local RCMP detachment.
Police, businesses and the City of Kamloops discussed restarting the program last month, RCMP said, announcing its return just before it comes into effect on Friday.
"Community safety is a shared priority for council and city staff, and we look forward to working alongside our partners at the RCMP to further this important initiative and help residents, visitors, and staff feel safer in these establishments,” protective services director Ken Uzeloc said in the release.
