KAMLOOPS - A Kamloops RCMP officer is thanking his community for their support after he apprehended a suspect connected to two violent break-ins in the Dallas area.

The officer was off duty when he cornered the suspect, who allegedly assaulted two homeowners in two separate altercations.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release today, Nov. 30, that the officer is thanking his Campbell Creek community for their support during and after the incident.

Shelkie says the officer isn't being named at this point for the privacy and safety of his family.

He has 16 years of service under his belt, and feels that since the incident his east Kamloops community has become even closer.

Shelkie says the officer also wants to stress that no one should take matters into their own hands when it comes to criminal activities happening in your neighbourhood.

"He is a trained police officer who relied on his training and experience to successfully deal with the crisis," Shelkie said. "He is grateful that the situation came to a successful conclusion and that everyone involved survived."

The violent break-ins occurred earlier this month in Dallas, where two homeowners were seriously injured during the altercations. Kamloops man John Stark, 31, has been arrested and charged with several counts including attempted murder in connection to the case.

None of the allegations against him have been proven in court.
