OLIVER - An Oliver fruit packing house went up in smoke during an early-morning fire on Friday.

Bob Graham, fire chief for the Oliver Volunteer Fire Department, confirmed the East 2 West Fruit Packers house suffered a total structure loss due to a rampaging fire on May 24.

Graham said 20 firefighters responded to the building, located on Road Five off Highway 97 near Oliver, shortly after 1 a.m. They battled the blaze for hours, finally finishing up around 9 a.m.

"It was an all-nighter," Graham said.

Graham said no one died or sustained injuries from the fire, although one firefighter had to get checked out for heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
