A dog rescued by a Vernon resident after two weeks on the run is now in the care of the BC SPCA.

The Labradoodle had been running loose, evading capture for weeks, until it was caught by Suzanne Lapierre at Marshall Field on Saturday, July 15. Several residents worked together to try to capture the dog that appears to have been dumped in a semi-secluded spot in the Okanagan Landing area.

That same day, the dog was picked up by Regional District of North Okanagan Dog Control and held for the mandatory 72 hours, and is now at the SPCA shelter in Vernon.

“We have a good relationship with the SPCA and we work together to get dogs the care they need and get them adopted,” Andrew Hunsberger with the regional district said.

“We’ve been getting lots of calls and messages about this dog, it will find a home quickly.”

Hunsberger said because the dog was running wild for a while it needs care before it’s available for adoption.

The regional district posted an update on Facebook today, July 18, crediting the positive outcome to the dog control officers and determined community members.

“Despite everything, he’s in reasonably good health and a very happy boy,” the post said. “He’s now in excellent hands at the BC SPCA where they’re providing him with all the vet care he needs to get back to tip-top shape.”
