SICAMOUS - A collision that killed a motorcyclist on the Trans-Canada Highway near Sicamous is under investigation by RCMP and they are seeking witnesses.
The Trans-Canada was closed for seven hours overnight Sunday, July 1, media relations officer Mike Halskov said in a press release, as police investigated the collision that took the life of an unidentified 37-year-old Lloydminster, Alberta man.
Initial findings allege a F350 truck hit the motorbike and rider in the westbound lane of the highway near the Last Spike historical site, east of Sicamous.
Weather at the time was poor with heavy rain and cloud cover contributing to poor visibility.
Eagle Valley Rescue Society members freed the man who was trapped during the collision however police say he died at a nearby hospital.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and provided first aid to the injured biker before B.C. Ambulance arrived, Halskov said.
Police are interested in speaking with any motorists who may have witnessed a motorcycle, either stationary or travelling in the area of the Last Spike, around 11 p.m. on July 1.
