Central Okanagan Search and Rescue crews left their usual terrain and assisted with an urban rescue of an elderly woman with dementia last night.
Just before 10 p.m. Nov. 8, COSAR was tasked by the RCMP to help find a missing senior, COSAR member Edward Henczel said in a press release.
Volunteers responded and helped search the downtown core looking for the 86-year-old woman who was last seen riding a mobility scooter.
"A witness indicated seeing the subject around 10 p.m on Ellis Street, so searchers focused on the area between Kelowna General Hospital, Knox Mountain, Gordon Drive and Okanagan Lake," Henczel wrote in the release.
"Shortly after 2 a.m. a desk clerk at a hotel on Gordon Drive called RCMP and reported that the subject was in the lobby."
The 15 searchers returned home by 3:30 a.m.
