British Columbia is the most popular destination for a large portion of Canadians when they decide to leave their home province.

According to the results of a Research Co. poll released Wednesday, June 19, BC came in first place for possible relocation destination for residents of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

"Quebecers prefer Ontario and British Columbians put Alberta on top," Research Co. president Mario Canseco said in a media release.

For Albertans, BC was by far the most popular choice with 50% of residents picking British Columbia if they had to move. A far smaller number said they'd go and live in Saskatchewan, 11%, while 10% said they'd pick Ontario and 4% chose Nova Scotia. Just 3% of Albertans thought Newfoundland and Labrador would be the best province to relocate to.

The findings seems to confirm the widely held belief in BC that the rest of the country wants to be here.

The poll surveyed residents in six Canadian provinces with only Quebecers favouring Ontario more than British Columbia by 34% to 19% respectively.

Age does play a part though, and while people under 35 from Ontario would choose BC if they had to relocate, those over 35 years old and over would rather head to Nova Scotia.

If BC residents had to move those under 55 years old would choose Alberta, while the 55-plus crowd would head to Ontario.

While the poll showed thatBC is the place most Canadians would move to, for those already living in BC a large amount are tempted to get out.

A recent Research Co. poll found that 36% of BC residents are thinking of leaving the province due to the cost of housing.

That number jumped to 41% in the Southern Interior, higher than in Metro Vancouver where 36% of residents said the price of housing may force them to leave.
