Suspect arrested in smash and grab in downtown Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP arrested a man after a smash and grab at a local business.

On Dec. 21, at 4:22 a.m., the RCMP received a report of a business in the 400 block of Bernard Avenue in downtown Kelowna being broken into, according to an RCMP news release.

RCMP don't identify the business.

Surveillance footage shows two suspects involved, one of whom broke the glass then reached into the store to grab items and then fled on foot.

Several officers responded to the report leading to the location of the male suspect who matched the description captured by the surveillance footage.

The suspect was arrested and a stolen item with store tags and security labels from the business were found on him. The suspect was processed and then released on an undertaking with a court date scheduled for March 25, 2024.

The second suspect was also identified and located but released pending more information from the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing and Kelowna RCMP are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or that has dash camera recordings, to call a 250-762-3300 and reference file 2023-74729.
