KELOWNA - A 20-year-old New Brunswick man is in custody and will face potential charges after a Scotia Bank was robbed Thursday afternoon.

The robbery happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. Jan. 8, 2015 at the bank located at 1835 Dilworth Drive, according to an RCMP media release. Mounties were told a masked, lone man wearing dark clothes came into the bank and demanded money from the teller. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators, prompted by tips from the public about the suspects location, were able to get police service dog Ike on the track and followed the suspect east on Durnin Road to a nearby apartment building. The suspect was found hiding on a lower balcony. The man was taken into custody and the cash recovered.

RCMP say a weapon was not produced during the robbery and nobody was injured.

The suspect from Saint John, N.B. faces potential charges of robbery and disguise with intent. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court in Kelowna January 9.
