Temperatures expected to reach 40 C in South Thompson

Watch out for hot weather this weekend as a heat warning has been issued for the South Thompson.

Temperatures are expected to reach 40 C with overnight lows of 18 C for the next two days, according to Environment Canada's weather statement. Sunday is expected to be the hottest day, with maximum temperatures in the high 30s, likely reaching 40 C in Lytton.

"A ridge of high pressure will build over southern B.C. this weekend with temperatures peaking on Sunday and Monday," according to the statement. "Overnight (Sunday into Monday), temperatures will only cool to the upper teens, and may in fact stay above 20 C in windier locations of the Fraser Canyon."

Monday and Tuesday temperatures will likely remain in the mid 30s, with a cooler Monday night.
