KELOWNA - A passerby who noticed a small utility trailer on fire in a Kelowna parking lot helped keep it from spreading last night.

Around 9 p.m. yesterday, March 15, a woman ran into a fast food restaurant to alert staff to a fire and grabbed an extinguisher to put it out after spotting it in the restaurant parking lot in the 100-block of Hollywood Road North.

The fire was in a small four-foot utility trailer which was filled with yard waste. The tarp covering and part of the light housing were damaged in the fire before the woman extinguished the blaze, Const. Jesse O’Donaghey of Kelowna RCMP says in a release.

RCMP have not called the fire suspicious, but O’Donaghey notes youths in a small white car were seen leaving the area when the woman arrived. A few youths were also noticed in a dark coloured pickup truck in the area.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
