KAMLOOPS — Two local businesses are merging together to offer residents of Kamloops a space to get creative through various art platforms and different types of craft projects.
The owner of Kamloops Arty Party Carly Schmidt and Nikki Williams of Craft Night are collaborating on opening a downtown studio to provide all kinds of creative art and craft parties later this month.
“Whether it’s a public event or a private event with just a few friends, we are going to have everything from drawings, water colours, acrylic paintings, glassware and learning how to make jewellery,” Schmidt says.
Prior to the studio, Schmidt was primarily offering her services through various venues such as restaurants, pubs, and private homes. They are still going to do that but with the new studio, this will give people the chance to get creative outside of those settings.
“Sometimes it’s so difficult if it’s a busy night for the pubs or you have a group of kids, you don’t necessarily want them splashing paint inside your house, so now we have a space that [you] can just book,” she says.
The two women were looking independently for the last year or so to find the right place. They wanted a spot easily accessible off the highway.
“We were both looking independently and then we connected and away we went,” Schmidt says.
The nights will be split up, with some days offering craft nights and others focused more on art parties.
The studio will also offer unique drop-in sessions where people can come in and focus on their own projects with a professional artist in the room to answer questions.
A block party will take place on April 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the studio will open officially on April 15 at 103-1428 Lorne St.
