NORTH OKANAGAN - Police and the Coroners Service are investigating after a Vancouver man fell into a tree well and died while on a ski trip.

Yesterday, Feb. 26, police received a report of a backcountry skier who got separated from his group on a ski run near Keefer Lake Lodge while on a Cat-Ski tour of 14 people, Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a release.

“A search was originally initiated by the ski group at the onset of the report,” Brett says.

The skier, a 51-year-old Vancouver man, fell into a tree well and was found unresponsive by the ski group shortly after the report was made to the RCMP.

“B.C. Ambulance Service attended the scene and airlifted the male to the nearest medical facility, however resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the male did not survive the injuries sustained,” Brett says.

The death is not considered suspicious and the RCMP continue to work with the B.C. Coroners Service on the investigation, Brett says.
