KAMLOOPS - A crash between an SUV and a commercial tractor trailer unit that caused the closure of Highway 1 west of Kamloops Sunda was caused by driver inattention, according to police.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the SUV driver wasn't paying attention yesterday, Aug. 14, when the two vehicles collided.

Fire crews used the jaws-of-life to rescue the SUV driver from his vehicle. Both drivers were transported to Royal Inland Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to a media release.

Late yesterday morning, traffic was stopped in both directions at the lookout point near Tobiano.

In the afternoon, the highway was reopened to single lane, alternating traffic. Single lane alternating traffic remains in effect while accident clean up and the police investigation continues.
