Vernon city council to vote on 3.7% salary increase for themselves

Vernon's mayor and council will meet to discuss giving themselves a raise next week.

City council will decide on the salary increases during a meeting on Monday, Oct. 23, according to memorandum from CAO Patricia Bridal.

The renumeration for council is based on the population of Vernon and the consumer price index of Canada.

With both the population and consumer price index on the rise, the city's remuneration committee recommends a 3.7% increase bringing the mayor's annual salary to $112,776.16 and city councillors' to $41,727.18.

That works out to a $4,150 bump for the mayor and an $1,535 increase for city councillors.

The role of city councillor can take up between 20 and 30 hours a week, while that of mayor is a full-time job.

Council will vote on the pay hike during its meeting Monday, Oct. 23.
