Three North Okanagan men all in their early 20s were arrested yesterday after driving erratically in a bid to flee from police in a vehicle with a missing licence plate.
According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, police spotted a grey sedan with no licence plate drive past a traffic patrol at 42 Ave and 35A Street in Vernon at around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28.
The vehicle had been the subject of several earlier complaints and had failed to stop for another police vehicle in the area just moments before. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled and officers decided not to chase the sedan for safety reasons.
RCMP said officers "flooded the area," and with help from the public who guided the police to the area where the suspects were found, and a police service dog, the three men were located and arrested.
In searching the area and the vehicle police recovered a quantity of cash, drugs, and a loaded firearm.
One of the men was released without charge, while the other two men will appear in court at a later date facing a number of serious charges.
Vernon RCMP described the incident as a "shining example" police and community teamwork.
