PENTICTON - Penticton residents may find sediment and discolouration in their water at some point over the next two months.

The City of Penticton annual water main flushing goes from Oct. 2 until Nov. 30, according to a media release. The flushing program helps improve system performance in addition to aiding pipeline scouring by increasing water velocity.

The process also improves mineral and biological deposit removal in the system, helps control odour and taste, reduces turbidity and eliminates waterline re-fouling, the City says.

The flushing provides an opportunity for preventive maintenance on system infrastructure by working valves and hydrants.

Some of the City’s water users may find their water showing sediment and discolouration as a result of the process. Water should be checked prior to using, and if dirty water is present, simply run a cold water tap until the water clears up, the release states.
