West Kelowna teacher who pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation allegedly breaches release conditions

WEST KELOWNA - A former Mount Boucherie teacher who pleaded guilty last spring to charges of sexual exploitation and attempting to pervert or obstruct justice has a new round of legal troubles to contend with.

According to court documents Brad Michael Furman, 30, is newly charged with 11 additional breach of bail conditions and an obstruction charge.

Furman was initially charged with child luring, sexual exploitation, sexual assault and an attempt to obstruct justice for incidents alleged to have occurred between March 16 and May 1, 2018. His last day of work with the Central Okanagan school district was in May 2018.

In the months that followed, Furman was released from custody on a $10,000 surety and he faced strict bail conditions, including a ban on going near any school in the Central Okanagan and he’s not allowed to possess a cellphone or any other device that can access the internet.

He pleaded guilty on lesser charges and the luring and the assault charges were dropped.

Furman will be in court for his latest round of legal issues Aug. 8.

Due to the nature of the charges, there’s a ban on the identity of the victim.
