A wildfire burning near Oliver and Osoyoos will likely see some growth in the direction of Mount Baldy today due to winds.
The Nk'Mip Creek wildfire has been growing in the last few days, most recently at the north end, said B.C. Wildfire Service information officer Dani McIntosh.
The service was unable to get an updated perimeter scan of the fire last night, so it is still listed at 6,800 hectares as of this morning, July 29.
With winds blowing from the southwest, crews will likely see more growth on the fire on the east side today, near Mount Baldy, so the wildfire service will be working on a contingency line in that area, as well as continuing controlled burns and structural protection at the northern side of the fire as well as mop up tasks on the fire’s eastern side, McIntosh said. They’re also performing controlled burns to burn away fuel in the Shrike Hill Road area.
Firefighters will also be constructing a new contingency line on the east side of the fire, west of Sidley Camp McKinney Road, she said.
Firefighters from Mexico have been dispersed throughout the operation, and will be conducting some hand work on the southwest perimeter, she said.
McIntosh said the service is “extremely grateful” for their help.

An incident management team, 46 structure personnel and other support positions are also supporting efforts on the Nk'Mip Creek wildfire. The total number of personnel is 244, according to the wildfire service.
An inversion is pushing the smoke downward today and the region is also getting more smoke from fires south of the border, McIntosh said.
